This year, the show which features top international acts collaborating with the musicians will feature the Swalla hit maker Jason Derulo. Word on the street has it that Future and Ed Sheeran were being considered for the show but couldn’t make it due to other commitments.
Jason Derulo is loved by many for his style of music which incorporates diverse genres ranging from pop, R &B and hip-hop. His primary musical influence was Michael Jackson with a touch of Elvis Presley, Madonna, Prince, Usher and Justin Timberlake. His hit song Swalla with Niki Minaj topped music charts and continues to be a force to reckon with. The Talk Dirty to Me hitmaker has sold over 50 million singles and 11 platinum singles to his name. So he’s basically the guy many upcoming musicians dream of being.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Sarova Stanley hotel on Monday, June 12th, Derulo expressed his joy at being chosen saying, “I have always wanted to be on Coke Studio. I even thought I was not being selected because of the dreadlocks.” He also hinted at the fact that he was happy to be in Nairobi and that in the short time he had come to understand that there was much the Americans did not know and understand about African music.
